Ingredients:
three cups (390 grams) all purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 cup (227 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature, 1 cup (200 grams) granulated white sugar, two huge eggs, two teaspoons pure vanilla extract,
Making:
In a big bowl, whisk flour along with salt, and baking soda. In a second bowl, beat butter and sugar until finally creamy and fluffy working with an electric mixer (or with a hand mixer). Whip for about three minutes. Pour out eggs and vanilla extract and then whip until well mixed up. Pour flour mixture to the bowl filled with butter-egg mixture and then knead it to create a firm dough. Cut the dough in half and cover each one half using plastic wrap. Store in refrigerator for about one hour or until eventually dough is hard enough to knead
In the mean time, pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C) then set rack within the middle of your oven. Prepare two baking sheets by just filling both with parchment paper.
Obtain the first half of your refrigerated dough inside the fridge and then on top of a lightly floured work surface, roll out the dough right until it’s inch in thickness (1 cm). Once you roll the dough, make sure that it won’t cling towards the counter-top. With a lightly floured cookie cutter, form dough into multiple shapes and sizes of one’s liking, and put cookies on baking sheet. Store the baking sheets with all the unbaked cookies inside refrigerator for roughly 15 minutes to chill the dough. This would sustain the cookies in their shapes once they are cooked in the oven.
Note: For anyone who is not decorating the baked sugar cookies, you may dust the unbaked cookies with sparkling sugar.
Bake cookies in preheated oven until finally the edges start becoming brown. It typically requires 8-10 minutes, based on their sizes. Remove from oven and allow them to cool on baking sheet for a few minutes. Transfer baking sheets to a wire rack for total cooling. Frost with royal icing, if preferred but see to it to wait patiently for the royal icing to totally dry before keeping inside the refrigerator. Store cookies inside an airtight container with layers of parchment paper or wax paper and they could last for a few days.
